Dawn
03:01
|
|||
I remember we were 6 yrs old
we used to hunt for ghosts as though
the world at large was not enough for us
We used to hunt for snakes and bugs
as if the human experience was not enough for us
Those ghosts caught up with us.
I remember finding plastic bags hanging from the tree
like ghosts above your street. Just shaking violently.
Now we lean into the dawn
We were designed to die before we're born
So lean into the dawn

So Long
03:51
|
|||
we're either earling the rockies or going nowhere in our Novas'
never and always touching and touched
two Sundays fall together by 4 o'clock and the corner of the stations of the cross where u found me
caught in a crack between a cry and a laugh in a cup picked up by sweeping gowns
and it's useless but regardless we make the same mistakes everyday we write it down and file it away
where some young suicide blonde dyed by their own hand in the bathroom again
It could take our whole lives
It takes so long to say goodbye
It could take our whole lives
It takes so long
It's like we've said it all along
you can drag me across the dance floor
and I'll dance myself right out the door
but if you drag me across the dance floor
then I'll dance to the end of the world
It could take our whole lives
It takes so long to say goodbye
It could take our whole lives
It takes so long
It's like we've said it all along
So long

Echo Park
03:40
|
|||
ur feedback is too loud
it's drowning out the flutter and wow
u wore me out all over town
just dragging our beds around
from heart 2 heart to heart 2 heart
no one hears the sound
ur moving too fast asleep no time to settle down
hit play and the tape delay decays each time around
u wore me out thru the street
we wear our heartbreaks like apostrophes
From heart 2 heart to heart 2 heart

Nite Lites
04:30
|
|||
dancing again overhead gravel underneath glass feet
I stand on the bed below a bottle shatters in the street
and the Nitelites scatter toward the dark
the space between the stars
smoke stands still banshee stepping lightly
thru black oil rainbows
I think I've had a bit too much to dream
under Nitelites stranded in the air
I'm neither here nor there
intoxicated men ruminating over a lost child
like harps and angels
an illuminated silent corner choir
under Nitelites they vanish in thin air
they're there then they're not there
Does anybody have a light
no one around to tell me no
sign in the window
tells me everything must go
and the Nitelites tell me the same thing
they say it's later than u think
midnight is morning

Battledress
03:22
|
|||
I keep my knives wrapped in my napkin
but I got pricked by a point of pride
so I dressed up my wounds disguised as something new
these plainclothes are wearing thin
Make myself up
Put on a cold front.
I keep my knives wrapt in my napkin
I keep my reservations too myself
I mind my ETIQUETTE wrapped in my battledress
I'm a party of one again
Make myself up
Put on a cold front

Two Thieves
04:10
|
|||
the moon always appears in the strangest place
the way it plays upon a strangers face
and stranger yet as we get to your step it appears in ur eye
u stole the moon out of the sky
melt away in the palm of ur hand
we're two soft prayers in Jerusalem
we never see what's underneath the bed where we pray
the moon always appears in the strangest place
spilling out on a stream of yellow light
adjust myself clean out of sight
of the vacant gaze of the big red face w/ the yellow eyes
that stole the moon out of the sky
two thieves
hearts up our sleeves
we spent the nights like dimes
we stole the moon from the sky

April's Fool
03:30
|
|||
stealing bottles from abandoned hospitals
making out on top of landfills
lifetime of cures momentary ills
we are spaces yawning in on ourselves
children of longing wandering thru these hills
on sobby crutches that our fathers built
Droopy shoulders stoop like a willow
weepy whippoorwills asleep on my pillow
lying right next to you
Aprils Fool
we heard the birds
they wrote the songs and we wrote the words
each rose so certain of their worth
like they were the only ones on earth
u told me that a blind bee stung u in ur dream
then u asked me what could that mean
on the first night u slept next to me
but that was it
a voice came blaring from a crown vic
we felt the backseats black plastic
we were 2 shrinking violets
if the rain doesn't drown them
and the sun doesn't starve them
Aprils Fools may flower
into a garden

Bath
03:45
|
|||
step out of the bath dry off my face and hands and look toward the mirror where obscured by fog u stand shapeless and vague u look almost relieved as I wipe u away like we switched shifts for the day and I want to write u but I don't know what 2 say when I try to reveal u I only see my face
many days after that I have seen u thru the glass looking out @ me no eyeholes punched in ur mask neither u or I wanna be the first 2 say hi it's been our whole lives why punch a hole in the sky and the rain will sting against my delicate skin I'll draw back the curtain and gaze in the mirror again
But this time in the bathroom mirror steam I'll write
I can see u
I can see u
watching me
and I love u
